Sally Armstrong Field Leader & Student Liaison

Sally grew up in New Zealand. Sally holds a B.A. in environmental studies from Massey University (Palmerston North, New Zealand). For the past 30 years, she has worked with people in a wide range of capacities: she has been a class room teacher, back-country ski guide, SCUBA diving instructor, outdoor pursuits instructor (bush, mountain, and river) and sea kayak guide. This experience has enabled Sally to experience and become familiar with New Zealand's wide variety of natural environments. A passionate interest in New Zealand's Natural History has led to her current pursuit of a career in environmental education. Sally's extensive teaching experience includes working with overseas' students at the language school in Whitianga.

In her role as field leader, Sally shares the responsibility to ensure the safety and smooth running of field exercises and extended field trips. She also is a support person for Directed Research Projects. While students are conducting their field work, Sally is available for practical consultation, guidance or help, and identification of flora and fauna.

As student liaison, Sally works closely with students to help them adjust to the New Zealand and EcoQuest environments and the communal lifestyle that is an integral part of program success. Sally (and, in her absence, John) facilitates student meetings and keeps the channels of communication open between students and staff.
