Jono Clark

Jono
was born in Whitianga, and grew up mostly in rural New Zealand. He studied
mathematics and sciences at Victoria University in Wellington. In the 1970s
he interrupted his studies to work and travel in Samoa, Israel and Britain,
and upon his return, to help bring the family farm on the Coromandel Peninsula
into full production. He completed his B.Sc. in 1979 and went on to train
as a high school teacher (Diploma of Teaching, College of Education, Christchurch,
1980 - major in mathematics and outdoor education).
Jono has extensive experience in the teaching of mathematics, science, and outdoor education at high school level, and has worked in adult education for a number of years. He was deputy co-ordinator of a community workshop for the unemployed, and coordinator at Avenues Alternative High School (Christchurch) where he was acting principal for a period. Jono has considerable experience in curriculum development, the development of bicultural dimensions in secondary teaching and was involved in both the structuring of and the development of resources for a diploma course in community work for the Christchurch Polytechnic. He is also a co-founder of the Environmental Education Centre of New Zealand, at Craigieburn. Two years ago Jono joined the ambulance service, and currently serves regularly as an ambulance officer.
Jono is the co-founder, director and operator of a design and development business. During the last four years, Jono has successfully operated this business, and is competent in all aspects of business management. For the past year, Jono has been involved in the site development (design, construction and maintenance) of the EcoQuest Field Centre.
