Spring 2002 Journal

March 26th

After packing a lunch, we loaded into JD and the "Weta Catcher" and continued on our Megavansect. Our first activity of the day was to hear a lecture from Dr. Gerry McSweeny, owner of the Wilderness Lodge and current President of Forest & Bird, about nature ecotourism and how he runs his lodge to be both profitable and environmentally friendly. After eating too many scones and having coffee (kindly provided by Dr. McSweeny), we went and planted endangered yellow mistletoe in the beech forest around the lodge.
