Alison Henry
Advisory Board Member
Alison's interest in the natural world led her to the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DoC) in 1990. With DoC she spent five years working with the community promoting conservation causes and encouraging companies to sponsor and support conservation projects.
In 1995, Alison left DoC to set up her own business, and has continued to champion conservation issues by promoting projects and involving the public wherever possible. Her main involvements are with Project Crimson (a Trust set up to protect pohutukawa and rata, two endemic and endangered plants), Te Araroa Trust (which is creating a walkway from North Cape to Bluff), the Motutapu Island Restoration Trust, and Rakaumangamanga (Cape Brett) Restoration Trust.
In 1998 her involvement in these areas was recognized in a special conservation award from the Northland Conservancy of the Department of Conservation. Lately she has taken on the role of Development Director for the Auckland Philharmonic, which she sees as yet another kind of conservation cause. In 2004, Alison was elected as a Community Board member for Mercury Bay, on the Coromandel.
